They are based on fluorecsent light technology and hold somewhere in the range of 40 - 100 layers of data, as opposed to a DVD holding 4 layers of data. Pretty impressive stuff if you ask me.

How's the seek time compare to say a 7200 Hard Drive?

And I remember some guy was making a diskdrive out of packing tape.
