Got | Apex? T-shirts
OK, first off, a big thanks goes out to Susan D from Indy who came up with the saying. __________________ Nice.I'll wear it everyday. __________________ That's assuming I get one. __________________ I think that deserves a big fat "Hell yes"... Very nice work. When/how can we get em? __________________ Those are terrific. Man, I'd give my left nut for...well, a month on a deserted island with Tea Leoni. BUT, I'd still really like one of the T-shirts!__________________ woohoo!!!its about time. now when are we having the GotApex get together in LA?? __________________ Nice!__________________ ...is Apex trying to say something with the back of the T-shirt? __________________ they are great looking! are they coming in different colors or only white? i voted for black.. but i could have been confused and accidentally clicked on the white link. but oh well.__________________ Very Nice!__________________ Who's gettin these? I want one....PLEASE!!!__________________ I have a suggestion on how to distribute these...Stand in front of where you servers are colocated, and the first people figure it out and get there can have them. HEHE... I know where it is and I colo there too... Just my way of making sure I get one __________________ And distribute them there, of course we would do regions... Midwest could be the hub, (Lets see the flames) Anyway Christmas? I will be in CA for 2 hrs on my way to Hawaii... Maybe I can stop in on the fun!__________________ THE SHIRTS RULE MAN! YOU RULE APEX!!!We've all got to wear them to E3 this year! I've got three friends who are planning to go with me this year, so this could whoop ass! ProMinx __________________ Man, I want that T-shirt.__________________ It's actually going to be very easy to get a t-shirt, and if we run out, we're going to buy more. So no one has to worry about not getting one. And yes, I'm going to do my best to make it cost free for everyone. Brainstorm time...__________________ Wonderful! I want one to wear my last day at work! Which won't be for a while! __________________ yeah right. I signed up for it several months ago and never got it. I think it's a scam.__________________ Bah, that's cause you clicked on the wrong radio button. You're supposed to click on the radio button with the BIG ARROW that was labeled "Send me a Shirt" instead of the one marked "Don't click me".__________________ Sounds like another Staples fiasco to me! __________________ Uh oh, I hope this does not lead to the end of another death in the dot com world!Life without got | apex? What would I do at work all day? __________________ Work? Seriously Apex, have you thought about having someone sponsor it? Like Amex Blue or someone that you are in good with... Could put a small line of advertising such as "sponsored by http://www.example.com" under the gotApex.com on the back? __________________ Yeah, you could do that, but I'd much rather DO something than wear an advertisement on my back Maybe some sort of banner clicking process. I frankly have freaking clue how much you get paid for banner click-throughs, but maybe some sort of proof that you've clicked 15 banners or something... __________________ why dont we all just kick down for the shirts. if we all by them we'll get a volume discount of some sort. i wouldnt mind giving up $10 or $15 for a shirt__________________ Quote:

Is it just me or is the site slow today?
The gotapex site is really lagging today, is anyone else having the same problem? __________________ The sluggishness may be due to high internet traffic because of the lack of an election decision.__________________ Site isn't lagging, but the forums are. need cool birthday gift ideas
Calling all got apexers--I need a some gift ideas for my soon-to-be-a-quarter-of-a-century year old boyfriend. Help me out guys... __________________ What kind of money do you hope to spend? -With men his age electronics has to be the ticket! Or become a hot little nymph, buy some victoria secrets stuff, and shoot a video. That's special if you don't already do that stuff. ( Just my birthday wish anyway, I'm 24, close enough!) __________________ If ya want something pretty inexpensive and rather nifty, I like the idea of a barbershop style hot lather machine for shaving. Conair makes a model that I know sells through Hammacher Schlemmer, but I'm sure you could get it elsewhere for cheaper. Hammacher has it for less than $40 though.__________________ Sam's club has a bad a$$ foosball table for about 200$.Buy it __________________ I like the foosball idea...but pretty impractical. Know of any cheap dart boards? He doesn't have enough facial hair to warrant a shaving thingy (sorry honey ANYWAY, I was thinking something practical and cool and electronic or something incredibly fun and creative. What's hot now? I'm going shopping on Saturday, so keep the ideas coming. Thanks! __________________ what about some tickets to a sporting event or concert or something? although i think that might be a good "additional" gift to go along with one main gift.. what that could be, i dont know. i would say that electronics are your best bet.. maybe a pda or something?__________________ OK, as someone who submitted his Christmas list to his family last month (Expensive: 2001 Porsche Turbo. I think you'll get some pretty sweet lovin' if he gets this. Hell, I'll freaking marry you if you get ME this! A new house Big screen TV. Note: I think all men sort of consider the TV as a barometer of their personal success. To have a really humongous TV, you have to have a pretty nice house, and for that, you have to have a little money. Perhaps a gigantic TV would misrepresent your BF's bank account, but a NICE TV would sure make him pretty happy (and feel good about himself!) Travel Great seats to a pro sporting event A stainless and platinum Rolex Yacht master Mid-range: Decent seats to a pro-sporting event Brietling makes very nice and sort of mid-range watches that would make most men cream their pants. A briefcase. Tumi makes ones that are effectively indestructible, for reasonable money. Sort of impersonal, though... Sony Glasstrons. If you can't afford a huge TV, simulate a huge TV. A Porsche Boxter If you're looking at clothes, forget it (unless it's from Zegna or Canali). It just looks like you're trying to change us. A fully stocked woodshop is something I've always kind of wanted. I don't know why, but it just seems like something I'd be really interested in. A really nice bed. That is something I use every goddamn day, and I could always use a nicer one (although the one I have now ain't that bad). Inexpensive: A PS2 a really nice cell (although that gives off the impression you want one more device with which to check up on him) Spa treatment. Just because we're burly men-men, does NOT mean we don't like to indulge in the sensual (sensuous? I can't remember which is which...ah, frankly, we like both probably equally). A night w/ yo' boy at the strip club. I **** you not, this can be a lot of fun. Forget crappy seats to a sporting event. It's not usually worth it. A piece of AV equipment (i.e., a DVD player, MD recorder, something he doesn't already have. It's tough to find a piece of techmo-gizmetry that a guy DOESN'T like, so long as he doesn't already have one). Shoes. Shoes, shoes, shoes. We loves the footwear. Concert tix work well. To a band HE likes. I once got Lillith Fair tix from a girl-friend. Gee, thanks. While a barbershop-like shaving cream machine is an awesome idea, you could always just get him a bunch of barbershop shaves. Or just a general scrubdown: haircut, shave, new clothes, manicure, pedicure, etc. Making movies is also an excellent idea. Sox and underwear. I cannot stress the neccessity of these, well, neccessities. If a bed is too expensive, check out those pillows at Brookstone. A buddy of mine got one, and cannot stop raving about it. THINGS TO AVOID: Wood. Pens. Nothing says "I couldn't give a **** about you" like a pen. A kid. By sports tickets, I do not mean tractor pulls, bear or alligator wrestling, or female boxing (yikes!). Whores are ALWAYS bad gifts from GF's, no matter how good an idea it may seem like to begin with. Along the same lines: VD. "Honey, this is Rick. We've been sleeping together for the last month and a half." Paper weights. Porn. While it's kind of fun and kinky on the day, it has a shelf life of, oh, 48 hours. Distrust, jealousy, and incessant nagging. [Edited by pennypinch on 11-09-2000 at 02:09 PM] __________________ Fooseball is the way to goexcellent idea fake im am right in that age area and would love to hav eon of them BUY IT!!!!!!!!!! __________________ Who plays foosball anymore? No one plays that game unless they are in college or on Friends!Unless he lives in a fraternity house, forget the foosball! __________________ motorized scooter... would be cool... but I think that along with whatever other gift you give him.... the "home movie" is a must! maybe hide it in his sock drawer or under his someplace he's sure to check pretty often... don't put with in the kitchen or some obscure place guys don't usually check... If possible, actually have him sit down and watch the video. Then when the movie's done rolling, walk out in the outfit you were wearing in the vid...... ooo... a nice sound system for his car would be nice too... __________________ Very entertaining and funny post, Pennypinch. All the ideas are really great, and the home movie thing seems to be a pretty popular idea. Of course, I'm sure he'd need a video camera with that (he doesn't have one) if he wants to, er, add to the tape... Okay, that was probably too big a hint since he somehow found this discussion and posted a message. Still, you guys deserve to know the fruits of your labor. Thanks everyone! Mavi forum |

Why is it that...
When SBP started the thread he did that some many people beleive to be racist in some sort of way, his thread was never once asked to be locked/closed/edited/removed/him banned/ etc... It is because you don't seem to think, period. You say you're sorry you're annoying, but that this is your way of blowing off steam. Well, don't wonder why everyone delights in dogpiling onto your exhibitions of dud-ness. The argument that this is off-topic and thus anything goes is both stupid and childish: open-ness carries a basic level of responsibility; believe it or not, there actually ARE things that aren't fit to post, as they are a waste of bandwidth. 'All that it takes for evil to flourish is for good men (and women) to do nothing.' In my book you are aiding and abetting racism and classism by voting Republican. You could say that, but then you would be agreeing with me about the racists thing. That's your party and you can cry if you want to. Think about the most racist, bigoted person you know. Just another of those vicious circles so prevalent in US politics. First of all, I am NOT a Republican. Secondly, racism is not limited to white-on-minority discrimination. Black cab drivers not picking up black youths is racism, if I have to spell it out. Would that cab driver vote Republican? I don't know, but I doubt it. Also, if all these flaming racists are voting for the Republicans, who the hell is voting for Pat Buchanan? Your polarized and exagerrated depiction of a centerist political party is dismally misguided. A significant portion of the population are Republican if only for religious reasons. Are you going to call them racists? I don't think they're right, but I wouldn't say that. If you buy Nikes, you're encouraging "sweat shops". If you drive a car, it's either polluting heavily, or is allowing a company to sell more SUV's. If you watch basketball, you're reinforcing sport as a perferable alternative to school in one's road from poverty. If you use the Internet, you're increasing the likelihood someone's going to create a violently homophobic site, in hopes of attracting some of the growing traffic. To act like your hands are so piously clean is laughable. Accept that you're as bigoted as the rest of us, and maybe you'll actually get past oversimplified partisanship. Mavi forum |

Give the country back to the people and not the politicians!
Do we pick the candidates who run for office? NO! Their political parties pick them and the parties allow us to vote for their candidates. How nice! Did the parties feel threatened when Nader wanted to debate in the presidential debates and was not allowed to do so? and I ask why not? He is a presidential candidate! __________________ I agree with you on the fact that I hate bi-partisan rule, but if we allowed anyone who was on the ballat to enter in the presidential debates, it would look more like a congressional session. Do you know how many candidates run on the ballat of just ONE state? ...way too many frickin people. Mavi forum |

How much pr0n is too much pr0n?
I was talking to a young chap the other day and he told me he had over 1.3 Gigs of pr0n. . . The thing that got to me was that he wanted more. Isn't this a problem? Or am I getting old and conservative? I would hope that just 130Mb of pr0n would be enough. . . oh well. . . guess its just me perhaps that thinks this. __________________ I posted this in another thread but there's a famous proverb that says, "when it's horny, it pours." That pretty much explains it all. "When the horny gets goin', the groin gets horny." There's just no stopping it.__________________ 'if the horny fits, wear it''early to bed, early to horny, makes one healthy , welathy and wise' __________________ LOL....but still...thats a lot of pr0n. who needs that much?? __________________ Quote:

Its not whether the PICTURES are pointless that we care about... __________________ Assume: The 1.3 GB of porn was all pictures.Claim: The average image size is 100 kB. If that is not a lot, I don't know what is!! __________________ damn he must own stock in johnson & johnsonfi he has that much pr0n __________________ There's no such thing as too much porn.__________________ I hate sticky keyboards...__________________ hahahere's something I found amusing... http://www.prehensile.com/does/2muchporn.htm Mavi forum |

Corporate Greed sucks
here __________________ slashdot rules.... :-P__________________ osOpinion11/7/00 By Dave Manchester Now that Napster has made deals with member-companies of the RIAA and decided to move to a subscription model for its software, perhaps it's time to review some of the issues. (By the way, those wishing to continue to use their current version of Napster to freely swap tunes should get Napigator from http://www.napigator.com. Napigator permits you to use your existing Napster client to connect to free servers not controlled by Napster the company.) As I noted by parable in my column "We're Goin' Boom, Boom, Boom," the issue is not copyright. The issue is the First Amendment. (And I am personally embarrassed for the system of jurisprudence that it is so ill-informed of the Law we repose into its care that a layman such as myself must point it out.) When P2P (Peer-to-Peer Computing) and micropayments collide, the real casualty will be the existing economic system. True Open Source P2P micropayments could just mean the elimination of banks as middlemen, at the worst; at best, being relegated to the comparatively non-lucrative position as clearing agents. This will depend on what form P2P micropayment systems take. But what about Human Freedom to share ideas? What about Free Speech? What about Freedom to Assemble? The issue at stake here is the Freedom to Assemble without special dispensation from the government or private arbiters of who shall be allowed Individual Rights, and who must give up those Rights. The Internet, the Web, and each online community is a gathering of People. In the USA, the alleged Law is that we enjoy the First Amendment guarantees of Freedom of Assembly. And it bears noting that there would not even be a United States of America had not the first 10 amendments to the Constitution been included. The framers of the Constitution were unable to sell it to their respective states without these 10 essential guarantees. And they were sold as Guarantees with a capital "G." This confers, or should confer upon those amendments a unique and overriding status that has enjoyed only sketchy and inconsistent recognition by the Courts, in this layman's meagerly informed opinion. It matters not if we physically assemble together in a room, or on the Web. The First Principal remains the same. Let the court decide what it may about Napster (all but moot, now). Trying to stop the aggregation of Free Persons in Communities on the web, and the subsequent sharing of ideas (in whatever form, be it MP3 or txt, jpg or pixmap, or DVD) is futile. If Judge Patel's order to shut down Napster were upheld, that's just one more area the Law will be viewed by most as having become irrelevant. Like the simulation of an antitrust action staged against Microsoft...it lost, and was ordered to break up. Has it broken up? No. Fines? No. Sanctions of any kind? Not so far... It seems big money is able to buy its way out of adhering to the Law, and the rulings of judges. No wonder thinking people look askance at such subterfuges for fascism and oligarchy (be it corporate or private). Let us ask, in this regard, where the Federal Government's respect for the Law was in the establishment of the National Security Act of 1947; or in the Executive Orders leading up to it; or the layer upon layer of secret Presidential Directives. The "national security" states are outside of the Constitution and always have been. The main concern at the time was not Freedom, it was the Communist threat posed by the USSR, and COMINTERN (International Communist Party), and their doctrine of "Total War," which the UKUSA secret government picked up just as quick. This was and is a putsch (the overthrow of a regime by a very small group). The country that would from then on live on only in simulation of Free Society was the United States. Where is the respect for the Bill of Rights when well connected politicians acting at the behest of only the richest and most secretive concentrations of wealth seek to establish an informational cage around every single Individual on the planet, calling it "Echelon"? Why is there a policy of 50 year delay in revealing what these elements have done? And only then, what they haven't shredded? Individuals are going to share ideas in whatever form. And they are not going to pay a toll each time they retrieve those ideas in whatever form. They won't pay a fee for unscrewing bottle caps when they've already purchased the liquid inside. Neither will they do it when the contents are a movie on a DVD, with MP3s, or CDs. We should, if Patel's order (or any like it) is upheld, initiate a class action suit on the behalf of the estate of Archimedes, against all manufacturers of screw-top bottles and bottle caps that fit them...after all, the screw was his idea. This effort by the RIAA/MPAA against Napster and DeCss is fruitless tilting at the windmill of progress. The Courts can only discredit themselves and enslave us by entertaining them. Take a look at John Perry Barlow's excellent article on technocrat.net titled "Napster and the Death of the Music Business." Barlow is right when he says there is an upheaval coming soon. It won't just apply to the Music business, either. The entire world economy will show it. We need to very carefully think through what we want from a P2P micropay system. Should the Artists create a viable peer-to-peer micropayments system for the Web, we won't even need banks. Soon, the Artists will be in a position to take 90 percent...not the pittance the RIAA hands them for their Intellectual Property they were duped into handing over as "work for hire" in order to get that recording contract. If you don't believe it, read a record contract; then take a look at the UCITA legislation, and the DMCA (Digital Millenium Copyright Act, legislation written by the RIAA and members, and given to "Your" representatives in the Congress to rubber stamp. Which they did. adding a few choice items AFTER hearings were done.) It is the RIAA member companies that are offensive here. Especially when they lead groups like Metallica and Dre down this primrose path to enslavement, taking the rest of us with it. Maybe this is part of the intelligence community's "music" project, referred to in the last pages of Miles Copeland's "work for hire," "Beyond Cloak and Dagger." Aside from the practice of covert domestic political assassination to which Paul Kanga and others may have fallen. Too bad it won't work. __________________ http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...-2000Nov6.html;0) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Good thing for online traffic school otherwise I'd be hosed Mavi forum |

Your PS2 impressions...
OK, so we've all had them for over a week (those of us who got them, that is...). __________________ Quote:
I think I wanna go to the beach today. But it is kinda windy outside, maybe in a couple days. Better i dont go today anyway, i have to study, and I have that test on monday. ohh i should go download that one song __________________ And hapoo keeps us in suspense.I didn't get one, and I can see the DVD advantage. But, I just don't really care for the console. It was over hyped, and soon to be outdated. The advantage that the original PS1 had was it's technology, which made for a machine that could grow. PS1 came out and wowed people with the lowest graphics it could produce. But that was just after Super Nintendo, and before there was any real 3d console. Now, in the era of cheap video cards, PS2 has a whole lot of work ahead. On the growth and potential side, the PS2 has alot to offer, but they don't have the time to stretch out that growth. With PS1, they were able to make the growth period long, and therefore create more games, and have a larger installed base. They don't have the luxury of time, not with Dolphin and Xbox on the way. As much as I hate Microsoft, I'll be happy to buy an Xbox. It should be the best of both worlds; the expandibiliy of your PC, and the performance of a console. Sorry, but I think Sony released what is soon to be a clunker. Blu __________________ See, that's what they said with the advent of the N64, that the PS1 was dead in the water. Not so. We all know the N64 had better 3D capabilities/better looking games/better controller, yet the PS1 was the best selling console of all time. Explanations? With USB ports, a hard drive bay, and an online connection of some sort, I think the PS2 is pretty capable of expansion of services. What those services will be is still to be seen, but I'm interested. I think this is just a repeat of the PS1 experience: Sega came out with Saturn, Sony clobbered it six months later, the Nintendo was too late to catch up. I think by the time the Gamecube and XBox get their act together, it'll be too late again; Sony will have too many developers in their hip pocket, Sega will be working on their next system, and only the ugly girls will be left at the party for Nintendo and MS. Any opinions on the games you guys bought, aside from the in-house Apex reviews at http://www.gotapex.com? __________________ SSX is soooo much fun. I recommend it.Madden is cool. Wish it implemented more than two players, though. Tekken is *yawn*.... Same game with better graphics. DOA2: Hardcore is pretty fun with clean graphics. Grip: I can't play that much because I still don't have a memory card. Argh. __________________ here's my ps2 impression:[high pitched voice]oh look at me! i'm the ps2! i'm made by sony! i have a dvd player! everyone will want me! you'll sell your kidneys/school education/soul to get me! la la la! (can you tell if i received a ps2?) j/k! actually, i really didn't feel like paying an arm and a leg for a game system (i got my dreamcast for free). the games don't seem THAT much more impressive, not the ones i've seen that are available. or was it necessary to get a dvd player since i already have one. besides, i'm sure it works well as a dvd player, but i'm guessing that most of the time was spent on developing the gaming console. so i'm curious as to the quality of it. all in all, after seeing the amt of money people are willing to spend on it, i'd rather get out of the way of those people, spend my money on my friends, and wait for my b-day to come up...heh! __________________ Quote:
According to IGN, you can play with 8 players with a multi-tap Actually, I just borrowed my buddy's mem card. Buy screwed me by representing that they were going to ship in 24-48 hours. Ha ha, think again. As of today, I STILL don't think it's shipped...Nevertheless, you have to try games with the memcard, Leon, they're way better. __________________ Penny, Buy screwed me over too on the mem card and extra controller... Here's what I did.. I cancelled it! Guess what though... I used the 30 off 150 coupon, and when i cancelled it, they didnt remove the 30 off... (i had madden and ssx in my order too)so I got madden and ssx for $65 total. So, if we keep it on the downlow, we may be able to get away with things like this in the future... BTW- Go to Toys R US and see if they have extra stuff. Mine has a fully stocked shelf of Mem cards and controllers, so I just picked 'em up there. __________________ OOh, very sneaky IrishSS! I bow to your superior bastardry!! I guess I'll have to pay full price for a memcard, or consider using a PS1 memcard. Is anyone doing this, and if so, how much slower is it really? The memcard I borrowed WAS quite fast, I have to admit... It sucks, because I told my little brothers to get me PS2 merch, but if I go out and buy a memcard and extra controller, they're stuck getting me games or something...oh well! Has anyone played Kessen? It looks pretty cool, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has played it yet... __________________ It's not like I was trying to screw them over, I was just really sick of waiting for my stuff. They said it would ship no later than the monday after the release, and after a week of waiting, I just said forget it. Keeping the 30 off 150 was just an added bonus! You can't use a PS1 mem card for PS2 games, you do realize this, don't ya penny? The PS2 card will work for PS1 games though... I heard somewhere that in the middle of this month that Sony will release a 16 Mb mem card, although I can't confirm this... __________________ I know, the screen when I added it to my cart said it would ship in 24-48 hours, but no! They now have no ETA on the thing. I'm tempted to cancel it too, but I only got a roll of paper towels with it. GRR!Are you sure you can't use PS1 memory cards? It thought that was the point of backwards compatibility! It lists, as accessories on the PS2 box, PS1 memcards, controllers, and multi-tap. Have you tried a PS1 memory card with the PS2 yet? __________________ Here's how it works, or so I think... You can use PS1 mem cards with PS1 games just fine... it'll read em and write to them. You can use a PS2 mem card for PS1 games as well.. it'll read em(duh) and write PS1 game info to them. Here's the thing, PS2 save game files are usually over 160K, which is how big the PS1 mem card is. So you can't save PS2 games to the PS2 mem card.Mavi forum |
