Pioneer DV434: is it really progressive scan?!

Mercata has the Pioneer DV434 DVD player. It says it has a "digital progressive scan output". Yet it's less that three hundo! Is there some sort of catch, or does this price just blow everything out of the water? My daddy always said, if it sounds too good to be true...

I heard it wasn't "true" progressive scan. And the reviews pretty much reamed it. Don't get it.

To sum it up in 2 words: Not really.

The answer is actually longer than that. However it does have some of the characteristics of a progressive player. You can find out more info at:

http://www.audioreview.com/reviews/D...ct_50631.shtml

In summary, I think if you're expecting to get a good unit with very good picture quality for a ~$300 player, you'll be happy. If you're looking for a replacement for the SD5109, SD6200, SD9100, SD9200, or DVD-H100, for pennies on the dollar, you're going to disappointed.

IMHO.

Great info. It looks like some of the less informed and discerning users were wowwed by the prospect of a $300 progressive unit, while others were like "What the F?"

So, any suggestions for a good player? I don't want to break the bank. Is the SD-1600 any good? I'd like to keep it under $300.

Oooooh, speedier pictures *.*

The internet is so much speedier at 75.2k then at 44.4k. Me like

Dual modems on crappy phone lines are the only thing that are going to carry me through this new-fangled "broadband" revolution ;_;

I always wanted to do that on dial-up. I have 2 Earthlink accounts I can access at once, does anybody know how to get that to work?

What ISP are you using Ben?

I'm just using a standard dial-up account with the local Rhode Island ISP. I only have one account, but it lets me log in as much as I want (or as many times, more appropriately), but I don't know how to deal with two accounts. Anyhow, with 1 account, which you may as well try, I went into My Computerial-up Networking, then I right clicked my dial up profile, then did properties, and I believe it's in that menu, though I don't have it in front of me - it's called Multilink, and you enable it, then select the other device that you want to use in conjunction with the first device. Then just dial as usual; it will dial the first then the second.

The cool thing about this is that you can disconnect and reconnect the second device without fully getting off the internet - so, if you've got to make a call or something, you can drop the second modem, stay online, then reconnect and the speed bumps back up.

What spigidygak does in his spare time...

This was found to be spigidygak's away message on AIM:

"I'm in my room right now, but I'm jacking off and too busy to talk to you. Message me when I'm not busy."

Thanks for sharing 'gak!

Strange but true story

Ripped from here:

http://www.euniverse.com/news.cfm?article_id=8

"A German woman continued on with a trip around Europe with her mother - even though she died one day after they set off. According to Ananova News, the sixty-year-old woman drove for four days across Europe with her dead mother, aged 93, on the back seat of her car.

She had collected her from the home in the German city of Frankfurt am Main and took her to Italy for a 'change of air'. But her mother died - apparently of natural causes - close to Milan.

The woman then carried on with the trip around Italy, Austria and Switzerland with the corpse on the back seat. When she arrived back in Frankfurt, she reported the death to a local hospital.

She says she carried on with the journey because it was 'what her mother would have wanted'."

Well at least mom got to see Italy. She always wanted to visit it you know.
