Shouldn't these companies be spending $$$ on Engineers instead of lawyers?

Hyundai sues Rambus

Posted 08/30/2000 - 8:34pm EDT

Looks like Micron's move to sue Rambus may have emboldened at least one other company. Hyundai announced this morning that they will be suing Rambus. They're being completely up front about the fact that they consider this to be a pre-emptive strike against an anticipated suit by Rambus for patent infringement. Meanwhile, Hannibal's proposed "Lawsuit" category continues to grow... -Ator

Nvidia sues 3Dfx

Posted 08/29/2000 - 12:20pm EDT

Another day, another patent lawsuit. Today's patent lawsuit is brought to you courtesy of Nvidia, who's suing 3Dfx to get an injunction on the manufacturing, sale, or importing of pretty much every card in 3Dfx's line. They also want money in damages. Once we get topic categories for news items, I'm going to push for a "Lawsuit" category. That way, you can just click on that and get a look at the week's legal wrangling, which seems to be what's really shaping the tech industry these days. Note that I'm not making any sort of calls as to the validity of Nvidia's claims; just an observation about all the suits flying around. -Hannibal

Micron sues Rambus

Posted 08/29/2000 - 2:36am EDT

Micron is filing suit against Rambus Inc., alleging antitrust violations and bogus patent claims. I guess Micron is planning to bite Rambus before Rambus bites them, as happened with Hitachi before Hitachi caved. Now that Micron has won their initiative roll and taken the first shot, we'll see if Rambus doesn't fire back with a countersuit. What Micron needs is the Ring of Resist Settlement to counter Rambus' +5 Boots of Lawyering.
Props to Grayvee for the linkage. -Hannibal

How soon before we see Anandtech and Tomshardware battling it out in court?

By the way it would be more likely to see Hardocp and Tomshardware suing each other. They have a history of contentious relations (not lately though).
