This type of thing is illegal and is certainly not welcome on these forums, even as a suggestion. __________________ Yeah and get arrested for grand larceny. Maybe...not a good idea , I wouldn't suggest this to anyone. I would think the conditions of the deposite are based on the fact that you return the unit to the store, the deposit being for damages to it. I would speculate that there would be extensive late fees added to your account if you tried to keep. Thus effectively killing your credit rating. [Edited by Hopper1 on 11-06-2000 at 12:55 AM] __________________ agreed and quite possible, but what can they really say if you say you lost it?__________________ Hmm good point... it's too late to think of a logical answer to that.__________________ I hear Hoppers' concern, in no way am I trying to get anyone a criminal record. This is just a thought that came to mind and i'm sharing with the free world. You, as readers have the free will to do whatever you want with it. __________________ keep in mind, Microsoft first had there $400 instant cash back with the MSN sign-up about a year ago. (before the stupid store gift certificates) But there was a loophole, people signed up for the MSN and canceled it right after they received their instant rebate. Meaning free $400 from Microsoft with minimal work. No one was prosecuted for Microsoft's mistake. Hmmm... wasn't Homer the bald guy with a piece of sh*t job. __________________ No Homer's job wasn't a piece of ****, it was as a nuclear tech. at Mr. Burn's plant. He made a wage and never got fired for sleeping on the job.__________________ true... sleeping and get paid. He has been fired before. And was rehired at the end though. But you gotta say he was BALD, if you don't count his 2 strand of hairs. ** how do you add those animated gifs in messages? __________________ I know of a few people that have "lost" the PS2 they rented from Blockbuster, and all they say is "sorry to hear that, we are going to have to keep your deposit."__________________ Quote:
LUCKY BASTARDS __________________ This really isn't that dishonest. Blockbuster charges or authorizes a deposit in the event of damage or loss. Your decision to maim/lose/take the thing is factored into their risk equation of how many they think will take or lose the thing. That said, rental cars are not the same way: they only authorize the rental fee plus a small deposit for incidental damage; I doubt sincerely that they'd only charge you the depost if you came back with the car in a jar, or worse, if you never came back with the car. Either way, this cannot be entered onto your credit report, basically because they don't have your SSN. They can charge your card, but so long as you pay that, you're OK. This seems perfectly logical and does not constitute theft, but then again, I'm not a lawyer, and you should probably ask to see the terms of the rental agreeement. This could work. Mavi forum |
