-With men his age electronics has to be the ticket! Or become a hot little nymph, buy some victoria secrets stuff, and shoot a video. That's special if you don't already do that stuff. ( Just my birthday wish anyway, I'm 24, close enough!)

If ya want something pretty inexpensive and rather nifty, I like the idea of a barbershop style hot lather machine for shaving. Conair makes a model that I know sells through Hammacher Schlemmer, but I'm sure you could get it elsewhere for cheaper. Hammacher has it for less than $40 though.

Sam's club has a bad a$$ foosball table for about 200$.
Buy it

I like the foosball idea...but pretty impractical. Know of any cheap dart boards?

He doesn't have enough facial hair to warrant a shaving thingy (sorry honey ) and he would LOVE the Victoria's Secret idea but um...heh...

ANYWAY, I was thinking something practical and cool and electronic or something incredibly fun and creative. What's hot now? I'm going shopping on Saturday, so keep the ideas coming. Thanks!

what about some tickets to a sporting event or concert or something? although i think that might be a good "additional" gift to go along with one main gift.. what that could be, i dont know. i would say that electronics are your best bet.. maybe a pda or something?

OK, as someone who submitted his Christmas list to his family last month (), I think I've already given it a lot of thought. Broken out into price categories:

Expensive:

2001 Porsche Turbo. I think you'll get some pretty sweet lovin' if he gets this. Hell, I'll freaking marry you if you get ME this!
A new house
Big screen TV. Note: I think all men sort of consider the TV as a barometer of their personal success. To have a really humongous TV, you have to have a pretty nice house, and for that, you have to have a little money. Perhaps a gigantic TV would misrepresent your BF's bank account, but a NICE TV would sure make him pretty happy (and feel good about himself!)
Travel
Great seats to a pro sporting event
A stainless and platinum Rolex Yacht master

Mid-range:
Decent seats to a pro-sporting event
Brietling makes very nice and sort of mid-range watches that would make most men cream their pants.
A briefcase. Tumi makes ones that are effectively indestructible, for reasonable money. Sort of impersonal, though...
Sony Glasstrons. If you can't afford a huge TV, simulate a huge TV.
A Porsche Boxter
If you're looking at clothes, forget it (unless it's from Zegna or Canali). It just looks like you're trying to change us.
A fully stocked woodshop is something I've always kind of wanted. I don't know why, but it just seems like something I'd be really interested in.
A really nice bed. That is something I use every goddamn day, and I could always use a nicer one (although the one I have now ain't that bad).

Inexpensive:
A PS2
a really nice cell (although that gives off the impression you want one more device with which to check up on him)
Spa treatment. Just because we're burly men-men, does NOT mean we don't like to indulge in the sensual (sensuous? I can't remember which is which...ah, frankly, we like both probably equally).
A night w/ yo' boy at the strip club. I **** you not, this can be a lot of fun.
Forget crappy seats to a sporting event. It's not usually worth it.
A piece of AV equipment (i.e., a DVD player, MD recorder, something he doesn't already have. It's tough to find a piece of techmo-gizmetry that a guy DOESN'T like, so long as he doesn't already have one).
Shoes. Shoes, shoes, shoes. We loves the footwear.
Concert tix work well. To a band HE likes. I once got Lillith Fair tix from a girl-friend. Gee, thanks.
While a barbershop-like shaving cream machine is an awesome idea, you could always just get him a bunch of barbershop shaves. Or just a general scrubdown: haircut, shave, new clothes, manicure, pedicure, etc.
Making movies is also an excellent idea.
Sox and underwear. I cannot stress the neccessity of these, well, neccessities.
If a bed is too expensive, check out those pillows at Brookstone. A buddy of mine got one, and cannot stop raving about it.

THINGS TO AVOID:

Wood.
Pens. Nothing says "I couldn't give a **** about you" like a pen.
A kid.
By sports tickets, I do not mean tractor pulls, bear or alligator wrestling, or female boxing (yikes!).
Whores are ALWAYS bad gifts from GF's, no matter how good an idea it may seem like to begin with.
Along the same lines: VD.
"Honey, this is Rick. We've been sleeping together for the last month and a half."
Paper weights.
Porn. While it's kind of fun and kinky on the day, it has a shelf life of, oh, 48 hours.
Distrust, jealousy, and incessant nagging.

Unless he lives in a fraternity house, forget the foosball!

motorized scooter... would be cool...

but I think that along with whatever other gift you give him.... the "home movie" is a must! maybe hide it in his sock drawer or under his someplace he's sure to check pretty often... don't put with in the kitchen or some obscure place guys don't usually check...

If possible, actually have him sit down and watch the video. Then when the movie's done rolling, walk out in the outfit you were wearing in the vid......

ooo... a nice sound system for his car would be nice too...

Very entertaining and funny post, Pennypinch. All the ideas are really great, and the home movie thing seems to be a pretty popular idea. Of course, I'm sure he'd need a video camera with that (he doesn't have one) if he wants to, er, add to the tape...

Okay, that was probably too big a hint since he somehow found this discussion and posted a message.

Still, you guys deserve to know the fruits of your labor. Thanks everyone!
