I need legal advice...

I got into a big discussion with my roomates on the ongoing situation with the presidential election.

I need help finding supporting information for knowledge I've had since high school. I remember learning that the US Supreme Court can choose to try or review any case within their jurisdiction, as dictated by Article III. In other words, I remember hearing that the Supreme Court can take any case, without following the chain of command, if they choose. (Though it's rarely done, I know.) They could try a simple felony case if they wanted. I know it's one of their abilities, I just can't find it.

Does anyone out there have a clue what I'm talking about and where I could find it?

All I could find was this, but it doesn't spell it out very clearly as to what original action is...
