Defective DVDs

So I just got T2 Ultimate edition running on my new surround theater system. I'm in awe of the sound effects and action on the screen...when all of a sudden, just as Arnie was about to bust Sarah Conner out of the mental ward...DOH! The screen starts to jumble and the DVD freezes!!! Major suckage!!!

Had to return the DVD. So my question is about what percent of the DVDs you've bought have been defective? I just started so this is 1 out of 8. Just trying to figure out how common this is...

none for me either, i have around 30. Maybe you just had a lot of fingerprints or dust on yours because the players are real fussy over that.

Nope...It was the first time out of the box. Well with both your experiences it sounds like I am the exception. Thats pretty good news.

Thx.

Sounds like your player is having a problem with the layer switch. It may be a defective DVD, or it may be your player choking on the DVD-18.

Sorry - you got me on this one. You might as well be speaking Chinese. What is a DVD-18? Is there something different about T2 that my player might not be able to handle???

That happened while watching fight club. It started stuttering right in the middle of the movie. It could be our dvd player though, which is a refurbished g.e. that i got at fry's for 99 bucks last week. I hate fry's, yet I always go there. How absurd is that?

Spend some money and get a good DVD player, like a Toshiba or Panasonic. Some people live by Sony, but I feel that Toshiba makes the best over-all DVD players, both PC and stand-alone.

Yes Toshiba is a flippin wonder. I've had the SD-1200, which is a low end model, for about 4 months now. There has never been a problem. I couldn't be happier. I payed about $150 for it at Mobshop. I say it has already more than payed for itself with the entertainment it has provided me. But just one thing... When playing something very quiet I can hear the disc spinning which can sometimes be a little annoying. Is this the same for all DVD players or are higher end models quieter? One more thing. I can't seem to play burnt VCD's and CD's. Is there anyway to play them? Are all players like that?

I have over 100 dvd's and no problems including some scratched ones from half.com. I did once get a stutter while playing an anime in my refurbished player, I couldn't duplicate it in the refurb or my 301 disc changer. I know some manuf have upgrades for this problem checkout your dvd model number in audioreview.com,people list problems and upgrades done here.

Both my players are whisper quiet and both play vcd's and cdr/rw's.Most newer players play this type and a rare few even play mp3's most widely known Raite and Apex. (A cool feature with the Toshibas is that you can shut off the display...)

There is a new type of player out there that support NUON technology that allows an alternative to the standard DVD processor that allows for a few cool tricks and "enhancements". NUON can serve as a game platform, too. Of course, the games must be developed specifically for use with NUON-equipped players. Because this is new technology, there are few games for NUON right now, though the N2000 does ship with one full game and three demo versions, as well as a game controller. It also supports internet connections like a cable modem. They wave of the future in DVD players...
