I'm with att, I used to go too, but now it's like going to a chaotic day care, all these kids with their stupid masks and, good god, the glow stick phenomenon. Here's a news flash: IT'S NOT COOL...THEY'RE GLOW STICKS. GET OVER IT.
I used to find them fun, and maybe it's because I'm aging (all of 22 years old) but I find a nice night at a bar up on Sunset floats my boat just fine now.

I hate it when people bring this up... like you're a better judge of whats cool and whats not...

I'm just out to have some fun and chill... so what if 'old school' people think its not cool anymore. When I'm rolling, and someone does a good lightshow for me, I don't care what others think... its cool in my books.

i have to agree with the older 'folks'

when i was younger i used to sneak out of my parents house in the middle of the night to go to parties, but you couldn't pay me to go to one of those things anymore.

maybe it has to do with the fact that i've seen people die from overdoses, get arrested, carry a gun for no apparent reason...

but probably the main reason why i dislike raves so much now is because one of my best friends destroyed her entire life because of Rave Culture. the last time i saw the girl, she was screaming at me because i didn't let her get more drugs, meanwhile she had already knocked herself out with valiums or something. she wanted me to stop in paterson, nj so she could get some heroin, but since she was passed out in the back seat, i didn't stop (i was so happy when she was comatose, let me tell you!). so she was mad that i didn't throw her out of my car on the side of the highway because i didn't know how to get to the projects. the last i heard of her, she was going to jail for extortion

isn't that lovely?
and it all started at a harmless rave!

party on, garth

Yes, i'm a raver. I listen to a lot of techno music, and i have a pair of those funny looking pants, and yes i flail glowsticks around about.

HOWEVER,
i'm not a junkie. I only go to raves at most once every month. Ive gone to many raves, but dropped only twice! Ppl should realize to do things in moderation, be it parties, drinking, watever!

Yes the rave scene is getting... how should i say, boring now. The best is the small underground type raves. I'm talking bout the kind where a group of ppl just throw one in the middle of the desert, or in the mountains, or in a forest. Its kinda like a camping trip and a party all at once. Paying almost $40 for huge party where security will treat you like crap isnt worth it anymore!

Sure, glowsticking is getting all too technical nowadays, wat with photon lights, and finger gloves, and the whirly thingies... But hey, it looks cool!

Lets try to remember why we go to raves, to enjoy good music and to have fun!

Not any more. Parties got lame when the MTV'ers started showing up along with the "club" type people. Rave's are not about people freaking and throwin there MAC down on some chick rolling.

Another thing was the 16 year olds that started showing up and taking way to many drugs for there own good. Raves are about the music more than the drugs, and its never a good thing to take 3 pills and 5 hits of acid at any point.

As for NARNIA, that is not even a rave it more of a concert. Did you even know that the rights to NARNIA were bought like for years ago by a promoter who calls the cops on his own parties so he doesn't have to pay some DJ's?

AS for the glows sticks yes they are lame, but who am I to say any thing I used to be a candy kid who had furry adidas overalls, multiple furry pants with matching backpacks and visors. They have always been lame and that will never change, but to all there own. Rave are a great place for expression of one's self.

Is that a new after shave, oh wait I remember it is a MP3 player. All of the raves are broken up, not that I mind what takes place, but why do people have to be immature, they know not to bring narcotics... so dont

I'm not sure why, but it always bugs me when people fight with each other over who's the "truer" or more "hardcore" raver. I'm sure everybody's been involved with the scene since the late 1800s, and we're very proud of all of you, but the whole idea of the party scene is supposed to be community. I'm not talking about all that PLUR BS that was made up by drug dealers so they could sell more E. I'm talking about a tight network of people who like similar music and like to hang out with each other, who would throw parties for free wherever they could and charge only when necessary to bring out better DJs. It's not about competing for who's better at "glowsticking" (or "liquiding" to you Brit kids) or over who's been to more parties. If you go because you love the music and the people, cool. If you go to have a place to take drugs and feel like a rebel, get the hell out of my scene.

As a DJ and a promoter in the Bay Area for the last two years, I've seen a lot of shady activity in the scene, and I'm happy to say that I haven't been part of it. My crew has thrown three free parties so far, and I've spun at probably 20 other small, cheap raves. I just hope that the scene will get better once raves stop being trendy. Maybe I'll throw a celebratory beach party as soon as it's not possible to buy a ticket to a party where there will be more than 10,000 people. Love the music, not the drugs, people.

I know I just bitched about the degeneration of the rave scene, but I feel obligated to defend it on this one. Schizo, aren't I?

styleee, your friend probably has an addictive personality. Anyone who starts out taking E at some rave and escalates to heroin was going to have a problem no matter how they start. Most people who use non-addictive drugs like E and pot as gateway drugs to heroin or coke are the same people who would become alcoholics, speed freaks, and even caffeine addicts. Some people are simply predisposed, mentally and physiologically, to becoming addicted. So while she may have started at a rave, I'd bet that even if she hadn't gone, she'd still be addicted to something. Before you flame the hell out of me, I COULD BE WRONG. This is just what I've seen in my experience. Sorry about your friend.

I'm almost 22 and have been raving for 10 years.. yes, that's right 10 years.. I've seen people die, OD, get arrested, blah, blah, etc.. blah.. I've spun at many parties and clubs and the deterioration of the scene is sickening. Probably 2% of the scene is there for the music. and it disgusts me to know that people pay 40 bux JUST for a place to roll.. damn.. pay me 40 bux and you can chill at my house, i'll give you a light show and spin for you while you do your drugs..

PLUR?? Peace, Love, Unity, Respect?? Where.. i haven't seen any of those facets of life in the rave scene.. everyone talks **** about everyone else. It's all for the almighty dollar. Don't get me wrong.. I have many friends who are still down for the scene, and they live it to the fullest.. Spundae, Backflip, raves.. everything.. but it's gotten too mainstream that it's not even fun anymore.

This isn't about me being an 'old skool raver either.. It's about facts.. As soon as something hits the news, or as soon as MTV gets ahold of it, it's ruined.. Its sad that even if I were to go to a rave, I'd have to watch my back because someone might want to jack me. (no, I don't sell drugs, but I've seen people get jacked for NOTHING.) And what's all this for?? Sure you have fun, but wait till you watch a friend get stabbed for pills, or watch someone asphyxiate on their own vomit, watch people being shot.. and this all at raves and clubs, over someone looking at their girl, someone selling drugs, or someone dancing better than someone else..

If you are a raver, more power to you.. I have nothing but love for ya'll.. but be safe and do it for the right reasons.. Don't turn the rave scene into something to be feared, turn it into something to be cherished.. Treat it right and it will continue, treat it poorly and you will have nothing left.

I'm a pretty 'new' raver compared to a lot of you and I really have nothing against 'older' ravers except the bitching and whining about how raves suck now, and how they were so good in the past.

What sucks at a rave? The bad people? The drugs? All this exists now and before. Of course, because its more mainstream now, bad people tend to flock to raves to take advantage of the innocent. Easy pickings. But whats good about raves? The music? The good people? Whats different about that today with the more 'mainstream' raves? More people = more bad people. Simple logic.

I just wished more ravers would educate themselves more. Learn enough about the scene and drugs and you'll do fine. At my very first rave I saw someone OD right in front of me. I was rolling too. Scared the living hell out of me. But I kept going to raves because i love the music and I love dancing. Do I take drugs? Of course. It heightens the moment. Do I need it? No. I've been mostly going clean recently because sometimes you just don't feel like taking the drugs.

Yes drugs is becoming a big problem in the scene... but a lot of the resentment comes from the way the media chooses to depict and degrade raves. All they show is drugs drugs and more drugs. If everyone educated themselves better on the subject, I'm sure things would be much much better... but then again, doesn't that apply to everything?

Oh and Styleee... Rave culture doesn't destroy you, you destroy yourself.

Of course when you're young and very succeptible to peer pressure, your friends might also be the ones killing you.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones, as I was brought into the scene by very responsible friends. I basically knew more about raves than most ravers before even going to one.
