does anyone know anything about moving to hawaii? __________________ Here's some insight:If there's any place that's tanking worse than the state of Hawaii, I'd hate to see it. The economy there is in some serious doldrums, and the only types of jobs you'd likely find are menial/service related. __________________ Yeah, it is pretty tough out in Hawaii. I kind of want to move there also, but what to do for a living? Obviously, there are the hotels and rest., anything related with vacations and such, and real estate stuff.A lot of people are moving OUT of Hawaii now, and there is this "criminal" element that is growing, obviously b/c of the bad economy.(but not as bad as on the mainland) I know that Booz Allen and KPMG have offices for IT consulting, and a lot of the big 5 accounting firms are there, but aside from that, I don't know. If you do move out there and find some killer jobs, make sure and tell me! __________________ ahh, that would be soooooooo cool, I went there for the first time a month ago and vowed that if i ever become rich that i'm moving there.__________________ ...EXPENSIVE[unless you're into fresh tropical fruit]and no pretty cable cars to make up for it... ;0) __________________ I lived there for 6 months after college (end of 1991 so I'm sure the job market has changed) and loved it. I wasn't there for 3 weeks before I had landed a job as a paralegal. In fact, it was my first interview. Anyway, I had an advantage in being able to live on military base with my brother so no rent cost. It was awesome and I may well have stayed if I could have convinced my girlfriend (now my wife) to move that far away from her family. We went again in January of this year (I've been there 5 times and have no wish to vacation anywhere else). It is one of the most beautiful places on earth.Tim __________________ our dream is to surf all day, and part of my plan is to start our own company doing something wonderful. i'm not exactly sure what wonderful thing we could do, but i'm sure i'll figure it out soon but part of the problem is where to go... Hawaii is a big place! __________________ Seriously...you should SO go. I can't help you out with locations, being that I've never been there. But the point is, that we only live once....you should definetly go out and explore. Trust me, I would as well, but I just landed a decent job, but palm trees and beautiful beaches sure doesn't sound bad, who knows....__________________ Hawaii rocks!! Although, it helps that I live there. The economy is pretty low, but it is slowly getting better. Personally, I think it is the only place to live. Once I finish school I plan to return home and find a job. If I were you, I'd find a job first then move there. The beaches are absolutely beautiful, better than anything I've seen here in socal. __________________ ...is to go back to school! i can finish my BA (i'm a slacker and i only have an AAS) and my friend can go to graduate school! and UH even has the program she wants! i'm sending in my application today __________________ I agree!! 1. probably find a job over there,,, and 2. YOU ONLY LIVE ONCE,, so fulfill your dreams.. Hey, you love surfing? Open a surfing school or something... I don't know, but in my opinion, If I had the chance to move somewhere that I always wanted to I would __________________ About the locations:Oahu, where most of the people live(like 75%?, is more like a city than an island. Yeah, there are the beaches, scenery, da kine way of life, and so on, but there are a ton of people, everything is expensive, you deal with a bunch of tourists whiich sucks. But you got a decent nightlife, for Hawaii, and the WOMEN, OH MAN!!! If you are into mixed races, like half asian and half white, Hawaii is the place for you. SO many beautiful women, it kind of makes me sick. Also, there are a lot of Asians there, like the majority of people are probably asian or part. Every other island, very cool and laid back. You could buy a sick house for what you pay in rent in the Bay Area. NOt as many people, but everyone is so cool. They speak more pidgeon in these islands, which is weird at first, but you get used to it. I think that, besides Oahu, the order of population goes, Maui, Big Island, Kauaii, and so on. All in all, good luck with a job, but if you find a good one, GO! GO NOW!!! Mavi forum |
