I look around around and see very few institutions really interested in solving long-term problems. Most institution seem devoted to maintaining themselves regardless of what detriment they cause to society as a whole. Take for example cancer charities who devote most of their resources to developing testing kits to be given away to private industry[the usual donors in the first place] forcing the public to subsidize tests that will be then be turned around and sold at a profit back to the same public. Meanwhile not a penny goes to actually locating the causes of cancer; oh no don't want to mess with potential market growth. The task of identifying carcinogens[which is pretty much everything around us]is left up to the thankless few, some of whom have to fight their own lieged institutions to be heard. But it's DIET anyways dummy, and that's what pisses me off about the whole 'free' medicine movement in government in that it wants to subsidize alot of people's bad dietary decisions; people want to have their cake, eat the whole thing, and take a pill[or 13] to make it all better. Any form of subsidized medicine should be short term and not fer 20 freakin years fer cryin out loud. To balance this out, government needs to stick their noses the heck out of individual citizen's private lifes and allow them to grow whatevef plant they want to self-medicate with. If they go and do something stupid that hurts people there are already plenty of laws to put stupid violent people in jail. To Ban a Plant is nothing less than a subsidy for private industries and destroying the Planet[for Humans at least] This is the answers to ever spiraling health costs; open up the market. Too often in the past it has seemed that regulation has as little more than an imposed barrier to market competition for special interests. Meanwhile those same special interests are able to rewrite legislation to their heart's content to protect whatever slimey business practice they choose to engage into pad their bottom line. Let us opt out of this system If I'm not operating a business, the federal government should have no say in my Life; my state and local government already have plenty to say on how I should conduct myself in public. Federal criminalization of such acts as growing plants for your own personal needs is nothing but a weak excuse to arbitrarily imprison and/or disenfranchise people. It's cure way worse than any disease out there. Meanwhile everyday we are forced to participate in a mad utterly mindless rituals of mass consumption of non-renewable resources. The waste is astronomical. Recycling is a scam to keep everyone zoned out that it's a really bad long term solution, especially when you consider all that energy wasted by trucks having to lug that **** around. Clean burn local incinerators would have been introduced in a sane society long ago. But that it's it isn't ir? We live in a completely INSANE society in the year 2000 where in a sense everyone walks around with **** on the bottom of their shoe but no one bothers to scrape it off, because hey everyone else has got **** on the bottom of their shoe too. Yeah you can take comfort in manipulated statistics or you can ask yourself if it can continue this way for much longer. :0) [Edited by renots on 10-06-2000 at 08:40 PM]
