Manic Panic! Stolen SS#!

My apartment was burglerized recently...well, not really, BURGLERIZED in the strict sense, but... Some homeless ******* climbed up to my balcony, came in, drank all my beer, opened a $50 bottle of wine, took a shower, and stole some clothes and my favorite pair of runners. But most importantly, HE STOLE MY ORIGINAL SS CARD!!
I just want to know a) if any of you have had this happen and if so, b) what do I do now?

Wouldn't you know I saw a Discovery channel show two days ago about identity theft, and how important the SS # is.

Interestingly enough, he left a new cell phone, a dozen watches, and a bunch of other rather expensive things like stereo, TV, etc. Maybe because he had to go out the balcony again, but still, it was a weird break in to say the least.

I saw part of that show too . . . I ICQ'd you after I saw it - sounds pretty scary! Has any good come from your offer of free hotdogs for a month? BTW - do you ever have ICQ on anymore?

How do you know he was a homeless *******, and not just an *******. j/k

First off, your SS card is not something you just leaving laying around.

Second, be thankful he didnt take a whole lot more.

I'll tell you how I know it was a homeless *******. I know because:
  • he took a shower, and if there is ANY non-homeless person that can leave that much dirt in a bathtub, I'll give him/her a cookie.
  • He left his own clothes in my apartment, including his shoes. THese were no ordinairy shoes: they were olfactory forces of nature. I kid you not, I could smell them a good 5-6 feet away.
Further, my SS card was in a wallet that was behind a cookie jar. He stole the entire wallet, not knowing I now carry only a money clip and a card carrier. So he's got, along with my wallet and SS card, my goddamn Subway card, plus some old pictures friends from high school gave me.

Finally, Butch, I am now hunting two people. I feel the guy I bought a hot dog STOLE from me, since I have yet to see him again. Maybe he's been too busy looking for the burgler...who knows.

No, the company gave us all new computers, which have an installer cop as part of the installed software. No unauthorized software allowed *sad*

hmm.. it is kinda weird.. I mean you'd expect that he'd take some of the other stuff and try to pawn it..

But I guess he does have the right idea, trying to fence stolen goods would probably put himself at more risk of getting caught. Taking cash is the safest thing to avoid being tracked down.

well.. hope everything turns out okay and that he's not knowledgeable about ID fraud.. etc etc...

Oh, I see what Hapoo was talking about!! Noo, I'm saying he left that stuff alone. The watches, phone, etc., are mine, and still mine, thank god.
Actually, he didn't take any cash either. Just an wallet empty of everything except junk, and of course, my SS card.

OK, I take it should alert the Credit agencies, which I'm sure will make it crazy difficult to apply for credit in the future. Any other things I should do?

i think he left that stuff for you on purpose, as a thank you for the shower and the SS card
