Anyone else get banned from Napster for sharing Dr. Dre songs? Just wondering... __________________ Naw...but i know a few people that happened to for Metallica songs..__________________ Dr. Dre is forcing Napster to block access to all of his songs, not blocking user access. I guess he saw the fans' reply to what Metallica did and decided to go a different route.__________________ Just another musician I'll never buy an album or download an MP3 of again.__________________ Why not download his MP3's???? It just makes him lose in the end. If you refuse to download his MP3's because of what he's doing to Napster, isn't that almost a victory for him?AJ __________________ So where is the deal in this thread? People please post threads according to their respective category.[This message has been edited by jeproks (edited 05-26-2000).] __________________ Dre's not acting irresponsibly; he's just trying to protect his wallet the same way that you would in his shoes. Besides, if you don't plan to download any more of Dre's songs, you have to skip on snoop, eminem, some minor artists, and Dr. Dre...so enjoy skipping over all of those if you like rap...ProMinx __________________ it's not even really protecting his wallet. i've known more people to hear mp3s on my computer and then go out and buy their own cd than bother download them themselves on a 56k. it just spreads the word about their music. hell, next they will be boycotting radio for allowing their songs to be played over the airwaves for free to the consumer. *gasp* and the radio station makes money off it! *double gasp* but...so do they, in the end. i don't see the big deal. mp3 is just the next wave in the future of how music is distributed.__________________ abatardi I hear people say that all the time, and to be honest with you I dont know anyone who actually does that. Hell none of my friends buy cd's anymore and with everyone jumping on the broadband wagon its just getting easier and easier to get songs. Thats not to say that I think its right or wrong but I dont think its corect to say that mp3's help more than they hurt. Personally I dont think its right for bands or singers who make ten's of millions of dollars a year to go around and bitch about not making more. They seem to have forgoten that people can live on less, and that artist used to die from poverty trying to do what they love. Bottom line. If you make good music people will buy it.__________________ if its a good cd, i ll buy the whole album. i am tired of spending 12+ dollars on a cd to find out there is only one good song on it and the rest is garbage.__________________ i havent been banned yet... but when i look at my list now, i have one metallica and one dre on it. __________________ you don't know anyone that buys cds anymore? I have GIGS of mp3s and I'm ordering like 5 cds as we speak... i mean, sure i can burn them but it's just not worth it sometimes. download the whole cd...put them on a cd-r that is not as high quality, skips more, etc. plus all the pretty high color pictures that come with the cd new. __________________ quote: Not as high quality, true but can you tell the difference between 192+ kbit mp3 and the actual cd?!?! I sure cant. And I have never made a cd from clean mp3's that skips. As for the pictures, I dont care too much for them but i also know of sites that have only cd covers. Now is all that worth 12 bucks too me, well the downloading and burning is. Plus it does add up. I do buy cds if i know that i like most of the songs on there but as mdrumm said, I am sick of buying cd's with only one good song on there, and since 95% of stores dont let you return open cd's it really sucks. As for the 5% that do let you return cd's, they're usually way way overpriced to make up for all the people that cheat them. __________________ Hey I got banded by Metallica, and I got this cute little message from them that it is illegal and all. But ohh well I still love Metallica. Napster never stopped me from buying their CDs. I just like to hear stuff before I buy it. Does anyone knows how to get access to Napster back?__________________ my brother got banned for dr.dre and my buddy got banned from the metallica thing. i personally dont like napster. i think ftp is waaaayyy easier and faster.__________________ I have never used napster in my life but the general consensus i get from a couple of my friends (who have been on the mp3 scene for a long time now) is that its a POS. I am fortunate enough that I don't rely on napster that if it goes down, I could care less. I think the reason that big artists such as Dr. Dre and metallica are po'd off at napster is that there is a possibility that it affects the sales of their albums. Since they are "big" stars, I am assuming that their contracts with their label (as in the case of Dr. Dre, he owns his own) include a pretty big percentage in album sales. Meaning if the sales take a toll, they also lose money. This is not the case with smaller and up-and-coming bands. Artists that are trying to start up their career usually only make money from a very small percentage of total albums sales. It is the Record labels that get screwed by the proliferation of mp3's. Most of these artists make their money from touring and what not. Meaning, they work their b*tts off to make a living. I try my hardest to support artists I like by attending their shows... but the problem with that is the continuing inflation of ticket prices. So.... I think the real culprits that people tend to miss is TicketMaster. Talk about a monopoly... If anyone should feel compelled to b*tch at something, look no further than TicketMaster!! OK, Enough rant from me... Apologies for any toes that I stepped on, 'cept TicketMaster. PS: Any coupons that work on ticketmaster.com would be greatly appreciated. Now I can not imagine how they could see a connection between mp3 and sales seeing how cd sales have been at an all time high for the past 2 years, and they're continuing to rise.__________________ Hell, I just bought 5 Bush albums!!! Of course I really wanted that Nomad 2!! LOL__________________ quote: Not the quality of the mp3s, but the quality of most cd-rs out there. And yes, on some songs I can tell the difference between 192k and cd, but only when it's in my car audio system, not in the computer. I try to use all 192k to burn cds and i use memorex gold cd-rs but they are just not as good quality as the cd you would buy in stores. they skip more, have less shelf life, and just plain don't sound as good in a good system. i too know of these cd cover sites, and my girlfriend makes the labels for her burns, but they never look as good either. but like that matters. overall, you get what you pay for (or don't pay for)..... that will always be true. -abatardi __________________ quote: yeah if you are lucky enough to get a good leech ftp site that is well organized, fast, and has good content. nothing will compare to mp3 sharing programs like napster and cutemx. i've used ftp, mirc, mp3 search utils, and programs, and the sharing proggies are by far the best. __________________ I want to know why Metallica and Dr. Dre arent going after scour, cutemx, etc..as the list goes on. Why just pick on napster? There are so many programs that look exactly like napster now, I dont see why they are only focusing on that one.__________________ quote: ????? I also use memorex 80 minute cd's, and in my car too. there is absolutely no difference in the quality. CD's are digital which means if you copy a cd onto another cd its perfect bit for bit, NO LOSS IN QUALITY. now if your system doesn't like the cd, thats another issue but i have used my cd'rs in many many players and never had a problem. Wanna talk about shelf life??? even the crappiest of cd's have a 20 year shelf life. TDK's have 100 year shelf life!!!! I dont think you would even have a cd player by the time the cd starts degrading if your still alive. __________________ can someone please post a link for a site that has cd covers.thanks __________________ quote: yes but metallica said "what we're losing right now is pocket change." __________________ quote: uh, duh. but dude, i really don't know what's wrong with your *ears* if you can't hear the difference between a cd-r and the real thing. even my girlfriend says "that's a cd-r isn't it?" and friends of mine also. plus, they are easier to scratch. don't even argue with me. on a GOOD system, you can hear it. i'm sorry if you can't tell the difference. I, and everyone else i know usually can. maybe we just have better ears up here in maine. they're fine tuned due to the lack of traffic and we have to use them more to hunt deer and stuff. -abatardi __________________ or maybe your just burning cd's wrong. maybe you have a crappy burner or something. there is no way that a copy of a cd can have less quality than the original. There is no difference in the info recorded from the original.__________________ aba, maybe your burner just isn't a very good one, that's why you can tell the difference!! j/k!!! But well. Just thought I toss this in, but UCI is gonna ban Napster next year.__________________ If cdr's were not perfect copys do you think any programs recorded on cdrs would actually work??? one 0 or 1 in the wrong place and the program gets ****ed up. and yet i've never had a problem running a program off of a cdr either.__________________ quote: http://www.soundstage.com/gold_cdr.htm __________________ Folks, we have different forums to help organize things. Please try to follow directions. Thanks. |
