i am going blind. __________________ Never had but i know a little about it.It is very safe and depending on the type of eye porblem you have has a very huge sucess rate. It sounds like you need a bit or reassurance. Go for it man. It cant hurt and will most likely help out alot. __________________ All I know is that its much cheaper in Canada. My friend had hers done, and it was cheaper by 1/2 for her to fly to canada for a week, have the op, and fly home. She now has 20/20 vision. Pro __________________ I'll corroborrate (whoa, massively misspelled) that. The big difference in price has little to do with the quality of the service, and EVERYTHING to do with the greedy laser companies. In the states, clinics have to a a per-use charge that runs into the hundreds of dollars. Every time they shoot that little laser, it costs 'em money. That fee is not imposed in Canada. Futher, you'll probably get better service in Canada. They have been doing it up there for a couple of years longer than their American counterparts, and in fact, many American hospitals are attempting to import Canadian "laserologists". Further, because there are fewer guys up there doing it, they do far more. From what I've read, the important thing to look for is a doctor that's done a lot of procedures. My eyes are horrendous, like -7.75 and -7.25 or something. I've been wanting to get it done for a long time, but your parents always tell you about such and such dentist that had it done and now can't work, or this guy who had it done, and has starbursts at night and sunspots in the day. One of these days, I'll get the intestinal fortitude to get it done, but until then... __________________ Actually, I'm going tomorrow at 2:15 for a "free" checkup to see if I'm elegible for the surgery. No matter what they tell me, I'll want to get a second opinion. I've been wearing glasses since I was 5, but have never worn contacts, and my perscription hasn't changed in the last two years, so I think I've got a pretty good chance.A good place should only have a complication rate of like 2-3 per 1000 patients (NOT counting other types of laser eye surgery - only counting the vision correction surgery), and should have a turn-down rate of at least 15% (I think). Find somebody that has done a couple 1000 operations at least. __________________ Todd: Ow, my freakin' ears!!__________________ thanks, does anyone have any links to places in cananda (toronto or quebec would be good) that do the surgery? i think i am going to go out of my mind soon! my eye sight has been horrendous(sp?) for about 8 months now. (i messed up the cornea on my left eye from over wearing my contacts.) my glasses give me a headache because my sight is so bad that my periferal vision is about 0, and i get headaches from it. and i really cannot see at all anymore with the contacts. eh, what a nightmare! __________________ humm... not to disgourage you, but based on what you just said, you have a good chance of getting turned down. although there may be other operations that will fix you eyes up and then you can get the lasic surgery. If you abuse your contacts (i.e., wear them overnight (the kinds your not supposed to wear overnight), don't change them for ever and ever, etc.), you have less of a chance of getting accepted. __________________ my eye doctor told me "you're the perfect candidate." and actually, both eye doctors i've been to this year said to do it. "it's only $6500, ask your parents for it as a christmas present!"__________________ __________________ After I swim in the morning my eyes feel like they are being eaten by the clorine. I just want to lick them. I would kill for some Visine in the morning__________________ I would kill just to go for a swim in the morning...styleee... where do you live man? This place is only going to charge me about $1000 per eye, and the other places around here are only like $1500/eye, and the Docs have performed surgeries in the 3000+ range. And this one place even "garuntees" 20/20 or your money back.. If I were you, I might get a second or third opinion... that Doc. sounds like he might be saying your the perfect candidate so he can charge you the $6500... just my opinion though. __________________ Quote:
i live in nyc (and i'm not a man and the normal eye doctors usually charge a ton more money then the "eye surgery centers." i think he said it was close to 4K an eye, but since i have VSP (eye insurance?) i get the "discounted rate." which i think is about standard in this area. my old eye docter in NJ said the same thing that this new guy did, and i think their prices were about the same. there are tons of ads on the subways, etc, for places that do it for around 1000 an eye. but i never remember who they are, or what their website it. so if you are a new yorker, and you can remember the cheap place, lemme know, k?
